Middlesbrough International Elite Mile 2009/10

As a Teessider Allison has always been keen to support and help promote the region she grew up in.

Both Steve and Allison have also long been advocates of the Middlesbrough 10K, a hugely successful regional event. Through an idea developed with Middlesbrough Council the Middlesbrough International Mile was created in 2009 which welcomed the UK's best milers to the town to race head to head on the streets. The race saw home nations against one another revisiting great British rivalry. 2009 and 2010 welcomed British internationals and Olympians as well as unknown youngsters who could well be the stars of 2012 and beyond.

The Mile event has fitted perfectly into the already established Run Middlesbrough event and through the kind generosity of sponsors allows an attractive prize fund to tempt the best road milers to the streets of Teesside. Extra Mile M+E project manage the Mile event in conjunction with Middlesbrough council.

Next time why not go the Extra Mile?

In 1998 former British Army officer Jim Panton and former international athlete Steve Cram joined forces to raise much-needed funds for the children of a small war-torn community in Bosnia.

Running a 52-mile marathon, they and a handful of Army officers succeeded in raising vital funds for the community. After seeing the difference that their support and funds made they made a pledge to continue their efforts for the benefit of many other children throughout the world. It was at this point that COCO, Comrades of Children Overseas, was born.

To this day, COCO continues to work towards brighter futures across the globe with the same drive and determination.
